Here are the folks lined up to perform featured sets at our upcoming in-person and online events in August:
Aug 2 at the Friends’ Meeting House
Elizabeth Dunn grew up singing with her family around the piano. Her rich voice, harmonies, and clawhammer banjo continue to bring joy to those who get to hear her. (15-minute set)
Mary Armitage: Mary has been happily singing both traditional and contemporary folk songs, as well as writing her own material, since the sixties in London, England. Here in Canada, she learned to play a variety of instruments and has enjoyed singing harmonies with her folky friends at the VFSS for the last fifteen years. (15-minute set)
Michael Pratt & Lynn McGown bring a wonderful sense of fun and passion wherever they go. The harmonic blend of their voices is truly compelling, with lively accompaniment by fiddle, guitar and percussion. Don’t miss these long-time VFSS members! (30-minute set)
Aug 16 at the Friends’ Meeting House
Chaya Harvey: Ethereal vocals and sparse instrumentation build a world of transcendent, melancholic beauty in Chaya Harvey’s music. Check out her dreamy melodies and tender lyrics on her latest recording, “Born in Spring.” https://chayaharvey.bandcamp.com/ (15-minute set)
Ruth Walmsley & Tim Bartoo have been longtime partners in music and life. Their repertoire includes folk and original songs, with Tim on piano and Ruth on guitar and lead vocals. Heartfelt and socially engaged, their music always uplifts the spirit. (15-minute set)
Craig Williams-Whether with CW Bluesbox or the Jook Joint Jokers, Craig is well-known for his soulful rendering of the country blues of the 1920s-1940s and authentic originals. Who knew having the blues could feel so good? (15-minute set)
Barry Truter- A dedicated traveler, Barry makes music from multiple traditions. Whether leading resonant choruses, Delta blues or polyphonic harmony, Barry always plays in the key of connection. (15-minute set)
Aug 30 on Zoom
Long-time VFSS member and organizer Simon Trevelyan immersed himself in traditional folk music, including sea shanties, through the VFSS. He has a wide collection of songs from Britain, Ireland, and North America and accompanies himself on concertina or guitar, or lets his strong voice soar a cappella. (20-minute set)
If you are interested in doing a 15-minute set at the Meeting House, please contact our Features Coordinator or sign-up at the desk at any of our in-person events.
