Here are the folks lined up to perform featured sets at our upcoming in-person and online events in September:

Sept. 6 at the Friends’ Meeting House & live-streamed to Zoom

Theme for the Evening: Songs of Labour and Working People

  1. Linda Chobotuck: Linda writes, “As a singer-songwriter I am best known as a writer of songs about work, since after sleeping that is actually what we spend the majority of time doing. I grew up in a folkie household and have been singing and playing guitar since the age of seven. I’m not a terribly prolific songwriter but if you keep doing it long enough, it adds up.” (15-minute set)
  2. Re:Sisters: Sweet harmonies with strong messages. They continue to develop a repertoire that showcases their voices and their hearts, from sisterhood and labour solidarity to love songs. The Re:Sisters are Barb Coward, De Whalen, Janet Dempsey, and Janet Hall. (15-minute set)
  3. Fraser Union: A musical force to be reckoned with since 1983, Fraser Union’s music continues to forge connections and strengthen communities. Roger Holdstock, Kathy Griffin, and Barry Truter bring their passion for meaningful music to audiences around BC. For more, check out  http://fraserunion.com/ (30-minute set)

Sept. 20 at the Friends’ Meeting House & live-streamed to Zoom

  1. Bevan Bartlett grew up singing traditional music. He has a penchant for ballads, airs, and laments (though he has been known to belt out a shanty or three), and sings accompanied by either guitar or reed drones, or a cappella. (15-minute set)
  2. Amorphous Folk Collective is a gathering of folks with a fluid structure who are interested in keeping the tradition of social singing alive. Not a choir, not a band, but something else entirely… This group earned rave reviews at August’s Princeton gathering; come catch the buzz! (15-minute set)
  3. Jon Bartlett & Rika Ruebsaat: Jon and Rika, both VFSS Life Members, specialize in BC songs, but also delve deep into other Canadian and foreign songs, mostly about work. We love chorus songs, too! (30-minute set)

If you are interested in doing a 15-minute set at the Meeting House, please contact our Features Coordinator or sign-up at the desk at any of our in-person events.
