Here are the folks lined up to perform featured sets at our upcoming in-person and online events in August:
August 7th at the Quaker Meeting House
Robin Holmes has taken to folk singing like a duck to water. His dramatic style brings life to his diverse song choices, including songs in Russian. Robin loves the “Filk” tradition, which draws from the sci-fi and fantasy genres.
Dragonfly, featuring Gian Ward on vocals and Dave Adam on acoustic and electric guitar, has been pleasing audiences for the last ten years. They bring their jazz standards, along with contemporary and folk tunes, to local coffee houses, festivals, and private functions. Come enjoy their warmth and style.
Bevan Bartlett grew up singing traditional music. He has a penchant for ballads, airs, and laments (though he has been known to belt a shanty or three), and sings accompanied by guitar or reed drones, or a cappella.
Graham Baldwin has played guitar since he was a child and melodeon for over 30 years. He has played in many bands over the years, and maintains an eclectic repertoire encompassing acoustic & electric blues, traditional & contemporary folk, and what he calls (with affection!) “cheap, pop crap.” He is a founding and current member of the Vancouver Morris Men and the Rattlebone Band, a local folk/ceilidh/ECD band. August 21st at the Quaker Meeting House & live-streamed to Zoom
Thalia McIntosh is a self-taught singer/songwriter from Vancouver. She takes inspiration from large emotions and times of challenge, the beauty of nature, and of course the silly things in life. Music has been a source of comfort and community for Thalia since she’s been in high school and she hopes to share that with others with her original songs and covers. Steel Cut Notes is a collection of friends who enjoy singing together. We have been gathering since January 2024. We like to sing a variety of music, but we favor Scottish and Irish songs, seas shanties, and gunfighter ballads. Steel Cut Notes is George Beatty, Che Buffel, Jeremy Kashket, Yette Paterson-Gram and Andrew Russell.
Guido Heistek has performed his music all over the world and has worked as an arranger and consultant for stage and film. But he is most happy here at home in Vancouver, playing and teaching ukulele. Check out his cool videos and music resources at https://ukuleleinthedark.com/
Christina Ray & friends — With a clear voice and strong spirit, Christina sings of gifts lost and gifts received, of healing and the broken places. She believes that together we can sing a new world into being.
