Here are the folks lined up to perform featured sets at our upcoming in-person and online events in September:

September 4th at the Quaker Meeting House

Roger Holdstock & Barry Truter — With Fraser Union, Roger and Barry have been lending their powerful music to labour unions and justice movements for decades.

Marcus Hermary’s passion for music, love of learning and powerful voice makes him a must-see.

Pat Howard loves the life and music of the commons, and of commoners, from the 1930s to present-day.

Yette Patterson-Gram — Born and raised in East Van by a union rep and a blues musician, Yette is a member of CUPE 15, Out in Harmony community choir, and the Steel Cut Notes.

September 18th at the Quaker Meeting House & live-streamed to Zoom

Mary Armitage — Mary has been happily singing both traditional and contemporary folk songs, as well as writing her own material, since the sixties in London, England. Here in Canada, she learned to play a variety of instruments and has enjoyed singing harmonies with her folky friends at the VFSS for the last fifteen years.

Rick Keating — A long-time friend of the VFSS, Rick describes himself as “a devout Catholic and an old fart.” It will be a real treat to hear this extraordinary songwriter again.

Vancouver’s Tim Readman is a musician, singer, songwriter, producer and music journalist, originally from County Durham, England. His musical output is eclectic and embraces a wide range of influences but most frequently he performs live in the realm of folk/Celtic music. He founded the Canadian Celtic/folk band Fear of Drinking, and played for years with The Arrogant Worms.  Tim has recently completed an album of contemporary protest songs, Songs from Eighth & Eight.

JES Trio — Jane Slemon, Ellen van der Hoeven and Susan Larkin, playing together as JES Trio, bring a variety of wind and stringed instruments to their beautifully arranged original and cover songs. Not strictly traditional, their music is nonetheless steeped in traditional songs and tunes. Be prepared for delightful harmony, warm humour and serious reflection.

If you are interested in doing a 15-minute set at the Meeting House, please contact our Features Coordinator or sign-up at the desk at any of our in-person events.
