Ben Rogalsky (Vancouver/Cumberland) is already known to some in the VFSS as a member of the well-loved Amorphous Folk Collective. He is a multi-instrumentalist who has performed and studied music in Canada, the USA, Europe, South-East Asia, Japan, and Central America. He is a parent, musician, composer, performer, designer, sound engineer, technical director, and collaborator. Ben is also active as an educator in both music and technical areas, and is the recently departed long-time Technical Director at SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts. Musical projects have included three albums and many tours with Vancouver-based roots band the Breakmen, three albums and associated projects with Gamelan Madu Sari, touring and recording original music with Uzume Taiko, two albums and much folk anarchy with the Flying Folk Army, and ongoing projects based around bluegrass and other stringband music, and classic mid-20th century country music.
Vancouver’s Tim Readman is a musician, singer, songwriter, producer and music journalist, originally from County Durham, England. His musical output is eclectic and embraces a wide range of influences but most frequently he performs live in the realm of folk/Celtic music. He founded the Canadian Celtic/folk band Fear of Drinking, and played for years with The Arrogant Worms. Tim has recently completed an album of contemporary protest songs, Songs from Eighth & Eight. Savoir Faire has been performing an eclectic mix of traditional folk and world music since 2008. Repertoire includes music from all over Europe —including France, UK, the Balkans, and the Baltics — and from Canada, including some originals. We love interacting with audiences and encouraging participation.

Isa Hastings — An emerging young musician from Vancouver, Isa loves music because it brings people together. With a background in acoustic guitar and prayer singing in groups, she is excited to learn more from the folk scene.
Barb Shaw a.k.a. Random Old Lady — With over 50 years of musical experience, Random Old Lady’s songs are steeped in Americana influences of folk, jazz, blues and rock. She plays them in her personal percussive guitar style. Barb is a prolific song-writer in many genres and has a talent for creating custom songs to help bring communities together around a common cause. She has been a choir director, songleader, performer, and guitar teacher for many years & welcomes your connections and comments.

Lovejoy — Sisters Heidi and Tiffany grew up with music woven into the rhythm of everyday life — singing alongside their sister, mum, and dad (their lifelong musical “north star”). Though song was always a part of the Baldwin family, it’s only recently that Tiffany and Heidi discovered the beauty of blending their voices and creating harmonies together. With their dad accompanying them on guitar, they are excited to share a feature set at the VFSS. They are grateful to The Folk Song Society for providing the safe and welcoming space where their sound — once described by fellow folk singer Dylan Brown as “mellifluous” — is finding its voice. This marks their first performance as Lovejoy — a name inspired by the spirited character from an Episode of Sparrows by Rumer Godden, and one that speaks to the deep love they have for each other and the true joy they find in making music together.
