Here are the folks lined up to perform featured sets at our upcoming in-person and online events in February:
Feb 7 at the Friends’ Meeting House
Jim & Nick Edmondson — Is there anything sweeter than the harmony of brothers? Jim and Nick have been singing together since they were youngsters, sharing songs of peace, love, understanding and fun.
Re:Sisters — Sweet harmonies with strong messages. They continue to develop a repertoire that showcases their voices and their hearts, from sisterhood and labour solidarity to love songs. The Re:Sisters are Barb Coward, De Whalen, Janet Dempsey, and Janet Hall.
Colleen Griffin, Cam Salay and Shirley Wiebe — Colleen, Shirley and Cam are long-time friends who have been jamming together for a decade. Cam Salay has been a professional musician since 1994 and won a Juno award in 1998 as a member of the Paperboys. He currently teaches banjo and guitar to many young students and adults in the Squamish area. Colleen has sung and played guitar with her husband Cam, and Shirley has focused on singing, playing and writing since 2010. Together they will each perform their own original song with a focus on family and place.
Jazzophilia Vancouver — Jazzophilia Vancouver explores the limitless richness of the classical music of Black America, aka Jazz. The result of a fortuitous collaboration between four students of jazz at the VSO School of Music, this project attempts to interpret various jazz standards including Swing, Blues, Bebop, Latin Jazz, and even some originals. Featuring Zarina Mulla on alto saxophone, Robin Bajer on guitar, Jeff Sarsfield on bass and James Hall on drums.

Teresa Gagné —Teresa and her partner Denis first joined the VFSS in the late 70’s, but she didn’t screw up the nerve to sing for several years. By 1987 she had risen to the exalted status of president, but left in 1993 to help found the Folk Traditions Sing-Around with other longtime VFSS members. Teresa mainly sings a capella, with a focus on peace and social justice songs – especially those by women, BC songs from Phil Thomas’s collection, and traditional songs in French, English and (occasionally) other languages.
Graham Baldwin — Graham has played guitar since he was a child and melodeon for over 30 years. He has played in many bands over the years, and maintains an eclectic repertoire encompassing acoustic & electric blues, traditional & contemporary folk, and what he calls (with affection!) “cheap, pop crap.” He is a founding and current member of the Vancouver Morris Men and the Rattlebone Band, a local folk/ceilidh/ECD band. Rick Gordon — A long time VFSS member, Rick likes sturdy songs, especially about work, with the occasional blues thrown in. He plays and accompanies himself on dobro and Weissenborn guitar.
Natalie Davidson & friends — Natalie is a theatre performer and vocalist whose interest in ancestral reclamation has joyfully led her to traditional folk music and her circle of friends that make up The Amorphous Folk Collective, of which she is grateful to be a part. She loves ballads, laments, and is particularly partial to songs that explore the ethereal and otherworldly. Though it’s very slow-going, she is also passionate about developing her ability to sing in Scottish Gaelic and other Celtic languages.
