Here you will find ballads collected by Francis Child, as well as many others.

Ballads are songs that tell a story, and are one of the oldest forms of popular song in the Northern European tradition. The tangled and many-branched evolutionary tree that these songs live on runs as wide and deep as our fairy-tale traditions, and has much to teach us about our history, and perhaps our very nature.
